Young motorcyclist killed in early morning collision in Linden

A road accident in the early hours of Saturday has claimed the life of a 23-year-old motorcyclist on Burnham Drive Public Road, Wismar, Linden.

The deceased has been identified as Kellon Sumner, of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden. The incident occurred at approximately 01:40 hrs.

According to preliminary police reports, the collision involved a motorcar bearing registration number PWW 2029, which was being driven by a Lieutenant Colonel of the Guyana Defence Force. The vehicle was heading south along Burnham Drive and was negotiating a right turn when it collided with a motorcycle, registration CP 6059, which was reportedly travelling north at a high speed.

Sumner, who was not wearing a safety helmet at the time, reportedly crashed into the left front door of the car. The impact caused him to fall onto the roadway, where he sustained serious injuries.

Public-spirited citizens quickly rendered assistance, transporting him to the Linden Hospital Complex. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead.

His body has since been taken to the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home’s Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Both the motorcar and motorcycle have been lodged at the Wismar Police Station and are set to be examined by a licensing and certifying officer. Meanwhile, the driver of the motorcar remains in police custody as investigations continue.
