WOMEN’S T20 BLAZE: Guyana beat Barbados to extend unbeaten streak

Guyana continued their strong start to the Regional Women’s T20 Blaze, securing their third consecutive victory with a four-wicket win over Barbados at the Arnos Vale Ground on Monday evening in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

In a low-scoring encounter dominated by disciplined bowling, Guyana successfully chased a modest target of 69 runs with 10 balls to spare.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Barbados struggled against tight Guyanese bowling and were restricted to 68 for 9 in their 20 overs.

Off-spinner Sheneta Grimmond led the attack with an impressive spell of 2 for 7 from her four overs, stifling the Barbados innings in the middle overs. Nyia Latchman also contributed with the ball, taking 2 for 15.

Only Kyshona Knight (20 off 27 balls) managed to reach double figures for Barbados, whose batting effort was further hampered by three run-outs, including Knight.

In reply, Guyana’s chase was measured despite some early resistance from Barbados bowler Shamilla Connell, who took 2 for 14.

The Guyanese middle order, led by Katana Mentore (14 not out), guided Guyana to 69 for 6 in 18.2 overs.

Guyana will next face Trinidad and Tobago at the same venue on Wednesday from 19:00h.
