Guyana finishes third at South American Karate Masters

Guyana’s karate team earned 44 medals and third place overall at the ISKF 4th South American Masters Tournament in Bogotá, Colombia.

The team’s medal count included 14 gold, 20 silver, and 10 bronze medals.

The tournament, which brought together top karate practitioners from across South America, proved to be a thrilling showcase of talent, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Guyana’s contingent delivered standout performances across multiple categories, with several athletes earning multiple medals.

Among the standout performers were Arryann Sankar and Agnes Siju, who both clinched gold medals in kata and kumite, demonstrating versatility and skill in both disciplines. Their dominance set the tone early for Guyana’s medal tally.

Jasmine Dalgety and Amario also made their mark, each securing gold in kata and kumite, further highlighting the strength of Guyana’s martial arts talent.

Jevanah Collins showcased her versatility, earning a gold medal in team kata, silver in kata and bronze in kumite, confirming her status as a key team player.

In the men’s categories, Javier Collins contributed to Guyana’s medal tally with a silver medal in team kata, while Jaden Dalgetty earned a silver medal in kumite.

Miah Sampson added to the medal count with a bronze in kata.

The youth division was also a source of pride, with several promising athletes competing fiercely. Trivena showcased her skill with silver medals in kata, kumite, and team kata, demonstrating versatility and consistency among the under-22 age group.

Feonia Yong and Talitha stood out among the adult women, earning silver and bronze medals in kumite and kata, respectively.

The McPherson sisters, Gia and Gael, also contributed with bronze medals in kumite, exemplifying the depth of talent in Guyana’s martial arts community.

Jonathan Yong shone in the men’s category with a silver medal in kata, adding to Guyana’s impressive medal tally.
