UPDATE: Car stolen from customer during Corentyne robbery recovered   

The car stolen from a customer from during a robbery at a Chinese Supermarket in Number 66 Village, Corentyne Berbice, was recovered just two villages away.

At approximately 19:40 hrs, four masked and armed men launched a brazen attack on the Golden Spring Supermarket.

Prior to storming the store, the bandits violently confronted Shevnarine Richard, 21, from Number 65 Village, and Haresh Persaud from Number 75 Village, just as they arrived to buy ice.

Persaud told the News Room that the armed robbers aggressively demanded all their valuables, which he complied with, handing over $25,000 along with a Motorola phone worth $60,000, a gold chain valued at $250,000, and several gold rings.

Richard was also victimized, with the bandits seizing a Samsung A12 and $35,000 from him.

After robbing Persaud and Richard, three of the bandits stormed into the supermarket while one remained outside, maintaining control over the two men in the vehicle.

According to information gathered, the bandits soon ordered Richard and Persaud to exit the car, but due to an old injury, Persaud struggled to comply.

Richard was forced to lie down on the ground inside the supermarket while other customers were ordered to do the same.

One of the bandits remained outside while Persaud was inside car.

Reports indicate that four shots were fired outside the supermarket during the chaotic scene.

After committing the robbery, the bandits reportedly ordered Persaud to exit his car which he complied and they fled the scene.

Following the robbery, Persaud and several relatives and friends coordinated a search for the stolen vehicle, ultimately leading to its recovery by police at Number 68 Village, hidden away on a back street.

“Me feel pleased that me find me car because I was studying it bad. Three weeks ago, I buy a brand new car,” he revealed.

Region Six Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed that seven individuals, including the supermarket owner, were robbed of cash, jewelry, and a motor vehicle.

Bacchus assured that investigations are underway as police work diligently to apprehend the perpetrators.
