Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of 48-year-old Derick Sylvester Prostea of Back Street, Kaneville, which occurred Wednesday evening.
According to police reports, Prostea was allegedly attacked by a 25-year-old male resident of Ally Street, also in Kaneville, during an altercation that took place around 18:45hrs on the Grove Public Road.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the two men, which escalated into violence. Prostea sustained a stab wound to his right shoulder and collapsed at the scene.
He was transported to the Diamond Hospital, where a medical professional formally pronounced him dead.
Acting swiftly on information received, police ranks apprehended a suspect in Kaneville shortly after the incident. The individual is currently in custody and assisting with the ongoing investigation.
