Guyanese bodybuilders Julio Sinclair and Melitha Fernandes earned podium finishes at the recent Roger Boyce Classic in Barbados.
Sinclair claimed a silver medal in his category. After the weigh-in, he was moved to the semi-professional ranks, and a victory in his heavyweight division would have secured him a coveted professional card.
Fernandes also impressed, taking bronze in the Wellness Fitness category for athletes up to 163 cm. Compatriot Sabitha Stevenson finished fifth in the Bikini Fitness Senior class for those over 164 cm.
Rosanna Fung and Nicholas Albert finished fourth in the professional divisions and earned prize money.
Hannah Rampersaud competed but finished outside of the top five.
The performances come as Guyana anticipates the upcoming Stage of Champions event, which is a significant moment for the sport domestically.
This year’s event is scheduled to offer at least three Pro Cards, providing Guyanese athletes with a direct pathway to professional status without competing overseas.
This development is seen as a crucial step in boosting aspirations within the local bodybuilding community.
