Endurance challenge takes centre stage at South Dakota on May 18

The punishing test of man and machine returns to the South Dakota Circuit this Sunday, 18 May, as the second round of the Dakota 100 Endurance Championship roars into life.

Hosted by the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMRSC), the event promises a captivating blend of speed, strategy, and stamina.

Racing is scheduled to commence at 11:00h.

Traditionally revered by motorsport purists, endurance racing pushes competitors and their equipment to breaking point over extended periods.

The headline act, a gruelling 100-lap race expected to last around two and a half hours, stands as the ultimate test on the local circuit racing calendar. However, the GMRSC is keen to open the doors to a wider audience.

“We want fans and aspiring competitors to come out and see what endurance racing is all about,” a GMRSC executive stated. “It’s not just about raw speed; you need discipline, teamwork, and pushing both driver and machine to their limits.”

The day’s programme is set to provide varied action. Before the main endurance event, the circuit will host a 15-lap race for team bikes, showcasing the skill and coordination required on two wheels.

Adding further excitement is a 20-lap sprint featuring the rapidly expanding Vitz Cup Championship – a class quickly gaining popularity for its tight competition and emphasis on driver ability over outright car performance.

As interest in circuit racing continues to build, the GMRSC is actively encouraging the public to experience the full spectrum of motorsport, from the explosive sprints to the attritional battles of endurance racing.

Entry to the circuit remains free for all spectators, offering an accessible opportunity to witness the demanding nature of long-distance competition. (Modified GMR&SC Press Release)
