Electrical fire contained at Cheddi Jagan Int’l Airport

A fire that erupted in an air conditioning unit located in the check-in area of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, on Sunday has since been contained.

In a press release, the CJIA Corporation said the fire is suspected to be electrical in origin.

The check-in process was underway for two flights when the fire started, and as such, operations were halted and all persons evacuated.

In the release, CJIA said it is anticipated that check-in will resume once the Guyana Fire Service completes its investigation and clearance is given. No injuries were reported.

“CJIA is working to have full operations, resume, in the shortest possible time,” CJIA said in the release.
