Afreximbank to host landmark roadshow in Guyana to boost local content, economic growth

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) will host the Afreximbank Guyana Roadshow 2025 from 21–22 May at the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, under the theme “Empowering Local Content Participation for Sustainable Prosperity Through the Implementation of Afreximbank Mandate.”

Organised in partnership with the Government of Guyana, the event will run from 8:30am to 1:00pm each day and is expected to convene approximately 150 representatives from government institutions, manufacturers, financial bodies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and the oil and gas sector.

This significant roadshow marks the latest in a series of initiatives undertaken by Afreximbank since the Cooperative Republic of Guyana became a partner in September 2022. Among the Bank’s achievements in Guyana to date are:

The successful hosting of the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum 2023
A USD 100 million trade finance facility signed with JE Energy for crude oil exports
A landmark USD 1 billion commitment to promote local participation in the oil and gas industry

Headquartered in Cairo and established in 1993, Afreximbank’s core mission is to stimulate and expand intra- and extra-African trade, with a growing footprint in the Caribbean. Its regional office based in Bridgetown, Barbados, is leading the Caribbean engagement and will be spearheading this year’s Guyana Roadshow.

The 2025 Roadshow will spotlight the Bank’s USD 1 billion oil service financing facility aimed at empowering Guyanese businesses. Through showcasing its suite of financial and non-financial products, Afreximbank aims to support local players throughout the oil and gas value chain.

“This event underscores our commitment to inclusive economic growth by unlocking opportunities for local content participation,” a spokesperson for the Bank stated. “It also provides a platform to demystify Afreximbank’s broader mandate as a pan-African institution driving transformational change.”

Afreximbank has identified several strategic projects within Guyana that could serve as catalysts for intra-regional trade and economic advancement. By deepening engagement with local stakeholders, the Bank hopes to elevate the social and economic prospects of the Guyanese people through sustainable development initiatives.

The event is open to invited stakeholders and aims to foster stronger collaboration between African and Caribbean economies in alignment with Afreximbank’s vision of shared prosperity.
