Elton D’Aguair was remanded to prison on Monday, days after 1.6 kilogrammes of cannabis was discovered in a Lethem, Region Nine house.
The discovery was made on May 16 by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU).
In a statement, CANU said its officers, acting on information received conducted an operation at a house at Tabatinga Housing Scheme, Lethem.
“A subsequent search of the residence revealed a parcel containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis,” CANU said.
D’Aguiar was arrested and taken to the CANU office in Lethem, where the suspected narcotic tested positive for cannabis. It weighed 1.6 kilogrammes.
An investigation was conducted, and on Monday. D’Aguair appeared at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of trafficking narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and was refused bail.
The case was adjourned to June 27, 2025.
