Ruimveldt Sports Club delivered a commanding performance to defeat Peter’s Hall Sports Club by a comprehensive 139 runs and secure their spot in the final of the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association 40-over tournament, sponsored by D&R Construction and Machinery Rental.
The dominant semi-final victory at Farm Ground ensures Ruimveldt will face Herstelling ‘A’ in the tournament decider.
Asked to bat first, Ruimveldt posted a formidable total of 272 for 7 in their allotted 40 overs.
Their innings was built on a series of valuable contributions from their middle order after a somewhat shaky start.
Jeremiah Scott top-scored with a well-compiled 59, providing a solid foundation. He was ably supported by Deonarine Seegobin (44) and Rickey Sargeant (40), both of whom played crucial roles in accelerating the scoring.
Late impetus was provided by an unbeaten cameo of 34 from Danny Narayan and a quickfire 34 from Rovaldo Pereira, pushing the total beyond Peter’s Hall reach.
Peter’s Hall bowlers found it tough going for the most part. Ryan Seecharan was the most successful, claiming two wickets for 51 runs.
Yogendra Singh also picked up two wickets but conceded 56 runs.
Chasing a challenging target of 273, Peter’s Hall innings never got going.
They struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Only Ryan Seecharan (24), Dwayne Graham (22), and Shameer Fazal (20) managed to offered some fight against a disciplined Ruimveldt bowling attack.
Peter’s Hall eventually got bundled out for just 133 in 27.3 overs, well short of the target.
Ruimveldt’s bowlers were incisive and shared the wickets effectively.
Sameer Hussain was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets for just 24 runs.
Rovaldo Pereira capped off a satisfactory all-round performance by taking two wickets for one run.
Rickey Sargeant followed up his valuable contribution with the bat by snagging two wickets for 31 runs, while Ntini Permaul also chipped in with two for 37 runs.
