Sherfane Rutherford is set to join the Barbados Royals for the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
This move will see a significant player swap, with long-serving Royals stalwart Jason Holder heading to the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, alongside Alick Athanaze, who also switches from Barbados to St Kitts.
Rutherford, the dynamic middle-order batter known for his powerful striking, will represent his third CPL franchise. He previously played for the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Patriots.
His inclusion is expected to significantly bolster the Royals’ batting arsenal as they aim for a strong showing in the upcoming season.
Holder’s departure marks the end of a remarkable era for the Barbados Royals.
Holder has been a cornerstone of the Barbados-based franchise since the CPL’s inception in 2013, playing a pivotal role in their championship victories in 2014 and 2019.

His move signifies a significant change for both Holder, who has consistently been a leader and key figure for the Royals for over a decade, and the franchise itself.
Holder will be joined by Athanaze, a promising young talent who impressed with the Windward Islands Infernos in the West Indies Breakout League.
Athanaze’s transfer adds further depth and versatility to the Patriots’ squad as they continue to shape their team for future campaigns.
These player movements come ahead of the official CPL draft, which is scheduled for next month.
CPL regulations permit teams to negotiate trades and transfers before the draft.
The 2025 Republic Bank CPL is slated to run from August 14 to September 21, with matches distributed across six Caribbean nations: Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago. (Modified CPLT20 Press Release)
