West Indies and Guyana’s left-arm spinner, Gudakesh Motie, has taken on a new role away from the cricket pitch, named the official Tourism Brand Ambassador by the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA).
The appointment sees the 29-year-old, lauded for his subtle variations and grounded connection to his Guyanese heritage, stepping up to champion his home nation as a leading sustainable tourism destination.
The partnership aims to capitalise on Motie’s growing international profile and strong local identity to showcase Guyana’s diverse and eco-friendly travel experiences to a global audience.
Kamrul Baksh, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, expressed his delight at the collaboration.
“Gudakesh Motie embodies the spirit of Guyana: proud, determined, and deeply rooted in community and culture,” Baksh stated.
“We are privileged to partner with him to highlight Guyana’s authentic tourism offerings.
His rising stature in cricket and his profound Guyanese identity make him a powerful advocate for sustainable tourism and national pride.”
In his new capacity, Motie will be involved in a variety of destination marketing campaigns.
These include creating digital content, engaging in community outreach, interacting with fans, and making media appearances.
A significant part of his ambassadorship will involve embarking on a series of guided tours, immersing himself in Guyana’s rich natural beauty, vibrant cultural sites, and thrilling adventure tourism options.
These personal experiences will then be shared with regional and international audiences, aiming to inspire travel to the South American country.
This strategic move by the GTA is part of a broader initiative to fuse sports, culture, and tourism.
The authority intends to leverage high-profile personalities such as Motie to effectively tell the story of Guyana as a conscientious, dynamic, and welcoming travel destination, further solidifying its position on the world stage. (Modified GTA release)
