Police have launched a full-scale investigation following a daring break-in at the Xin Cheng Supermarket in Bartica. Three identifiable suspects made off with an undisclosed sum of cash and a haul of hardware and household items.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, targeted the supermarket at Lot 61 Second Avenue. The establishment is operated by 28-year-old Jiamiel Qui, a Chinese national and businesswoman who resides at Lot 9A Public Road, Ankerville, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects forcibly entered the premises, removing a range of items from the store’s shelves and cash register before fleeing the scene.
Following swift police action and intelligence-led efforts, ranks visited the home of one of the suspects. The individual was promptly arrested and questioned, leading to the recovery of several stolen items. Among the items seized were:
Two (2) black and yellow Ingco cordless drills with three batteries
One (1) Ingco three-piece brush set
One (1) black Decakila cordless mixer
One (1) Ingco electric saw
One (1) Ingco belt sander
One (1) Decakila cordless portable blender
Twenty (20) cartons of cigarettes
All recovered items are currently lodged at the Bartica Police Station as evidence.
In a further development, police have confirmed the arrest of additional suspects, including a businessman, in connection with the break and enter and larceny case. The individuals are reportedly cooperating with investigators and remain in custody as enquiries continue.
