Through its Chief Executive Officer, Paul Subryan, KFC Guyana reiterated its strong support for the Guyana Blind Cricket Team as they finalise preparations for the 11th Regional Blind Cricket Tournament in Barbados, slated for May 21st to May 28th, 2025.
In a statement released after hosting the national squad for lunch on Wednesday, Subryan lauded the team’s spirit and dedication.
“This incredible team continues to inspire us with their unwavering determination, resilience, and passion for the game,” he remarked.
“They remind us that true vision isn’t just about what we see, but about what we believe, strive for, and achieve. We are proud to stand behind these athletes as they break barriers and make Guyana proud. Wishing them all the best on and off the field!”
The Guyana Blind Cricket Association (GuyBCA) recently unveiled a 17-member contingent that includes seasoned campaigners and promising talent.
During the week-long tournament, the team will compete in a 40-over round-robin format and a T20 championship.
The experienced West Indies blind cricketer Kevin Douglas will captain the side.
He will be ably supported by fellow West Indies representatives Ganesh Singh and Leroy Phillips, whose presence adds significant international experience to the squad.
In a significant nod to the development and inclusivity within blind cricket, the squad also features four West Indies female blind cricketers: Rosemarie Ramitt, Robecka Edinboro, Ackila Smith, and Crystal Aulder.
Their inclusion underscores the growing depth and diversity of talent within Guyana’s blind cricket setup.
The management team comprises Travis Mohamed as coach, Mahendra Algu as team manager, and Shaniyah English as physiotherapist.
They ensure the players are well-prepared and supported throughout the competition.
The GuyBCA has expressed profound gratitude to the numerous corporate entities and private citizens whose contributions have facilitated the team’s participation.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport was especially acknowledged for its steadfast and unwavering support.
The tournament, which commences today in Barbados, will see Guyana compete against other regional teams, vying for coveted titles in both formats of the game.
