Former Minister Valerie Garrido-Lowe dies at 64

The Alliance For Change (AFC) has announced with deep sorrow the passing of one of its longest-serving and most devoted members, former Minister Valerie Garrido-Lowe. She died early this morning following a heart attack.

Garrido-Lowe, a long-standing member of the AFC, was known for her fearless advocacy and unwavering commitment to the people of Guyana. She served as Minister within the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs from 2015 to 2020, where she championed the rights of Amerindian communities and worked relentlessly to support their development and wellbeing.

Described by the party as a “trailblazer” and “a woman of courage, integrity, and deep conviction,” Garrido-Lowe’s legacy in public service is one marked by passionate leadership and sincere compassion.
