Indian parliamentary delegation visits Guyana; reaffirms anti-terrorism commitment

A high-level All-Party Parliamentary Delegation from India, led by the esteemed Dr Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, is on an official visit to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana from 25 to 27 May 2025. The visit underscores India’s firm stance of zero-tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The delegation comprises prominent members of both houses of the Indian Parliament:

Dr Shashi Tharoor – Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha (Head of Delegation)

Dr Sarfraz Ahmad – Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha

Shri Harish Madhur Ganti – Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha

Shri Shashank Mani Tripathi – Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha

Shri Bhubaneswar Kalita – Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha

Shri Milind Murli Deora – Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha

Shri Tejasvi Suryanaryana Lakya – Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha

Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu – Former Ambassador of India to the United States and former High Commissioner to Sri Lanka

During the visit, the delegation will engage with Guyanese leadership, key members of the media, the Indian community and diaspora, as well as longstanding friends of India in Guyana. These interactions aim to promote unity and brotherhood, while reaffirming India’s shared resolve to combat the global threat of terrorism.

The delegation will also participate in Guyana’s 59th Independence Day celebrations, which will be held in Berbice as guests of the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

This visit marks a significant moment in strengthening the historical and friendly relations between India and Guyana, paving the way for deeper cooperation in mutual areas of interest.
