Former Guyana youth fast bowler Joshua Jones has made an immediate impact in the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket League, bagging a remarkable six-wicket haul for his new club, Billesdon Cricket Club, in a recent First-Division encounter against Newton Linford.
The 25-year-old, who is on a six-month stint in England, showcased his pace and skill with the new ball, returning impressive figures of 6-18 from his 10.3 overs.
Jones indicated that Billesdon CC had expressed keen interest in his talents before securing his services for the English cricket season.
A Corporal in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Jones has ambitions that extend beyond his current English exploits.
He views this experience as a crucial stepping stone towards his ultimate goal: representing the Guyana Harpy Eagles in regional cricket.
His time in the competitive environment of English league cricket is seen as an opportunity to hone his skills and gain valuable exposure.
“The experience here is vital,” Jones has been quoted as saying, emphasising his desire to break into the Guyanese national set-up.
He is focused on performing consistently for Billesdon CC, with an eye on progressing through the English cricketing ranks.
The pathway he envisions includes a move to the Premier Division, followed by an ambitious but determined aim to attract attention at the County level.
Jones, who has previously been involved in Guyana Harpy Eagles trial matches, is known for his new-ball prowess.
He is scheduled to be back in action for Billesdon CC this coming Saturday, looking to build on his early success.
