A 41-year-old man was taken into custody on Tuesday evening after police discovered an unlicensed firearm approximately five feet from a motorcar in Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the arrest was made around 19:00 hrs, after ranks from the Central Police Station acted on information received and conducted a patrol in the area.
As police approached the location, an unidentified man on a dark-coloured motorcycle—reportedly lacking a registration number—was seen fleeing from beside a silver-grey motorcar, bearing registration number PXX 1524.
The vehicle was parked in front of a yard, where police made contact with Michael Embrack, also known as ‘Duckman’, a resident of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam. Embrack told officers he was the driver of the vehicle.
A search of the house and yard revealed nothing illegal, and a subsequent search of the vehicle also came up empty. However, a further sweep of the immediate surroundings led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol about five feet away from the car, near an electrical pole.
Embrack was arrested on the spot and escorted to Central Police Station, where he remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
Police said the firearm was dusted for latent fingerprints, but none were found. The weapon was then marked, sealed, and lodged with the Station Sergeant for safekeeping as investigations continue.
