Khalil and Gomes cop silver in Women’s Doubles at South American Championships

Guyana’s Ashley Khalil and Kirsten Gomes won silver in the Women’s Doubles final at the South American Senior Squash Championships in Brazil on Thursday evening.

Facing the formidable Paraguayan pair of Ana Maria Pinto and Giselle Delgado in the championship match, the Guyanese team showed tremendous grit and resolve but ultimately went down 10-11, 5-11.

It is the sole medal for Guyana thus far at the championships as the other doubles teams exited at the quarter-final stage, and in the singles players either lost at the round-of-32 or round-of-16 stage.

Attention now turns to the team segment of the championships.

The other members of the team from Guyana are: Jason-Ray Khalil, Samuel Inc-Carvalhal, Gabrielle Fraser, and Michael Alphonso Jr.
