President Ali: Azruddin Mohamed’s video ‘reinforces his duplicity and dishonesty’

In an invited comment to News Room regarding a video released by businessman Azrudin Mohamed, President Irfaan Ali said the footage further highlights Mohamed’s “duplicity and dishonesty.”

“My number is no secret—it’s the same one I’ve used in and out of government,” the President said. “Thousands of Guyanese contact me regularly on various matters. So the fact that he had my number is nothing special.”

Addressing the key issue of the vehicle’s value, President Ali reiterated:
“At no point did Azruddin Mohamed share with me the correct invoice indicating a value of US$695,000, which we now know is the accurate cost of the vehicle. Instead, he maintained the false claim that the vehicle was worth US$75,000—the same figure he presented to the Guyana Revenue Authority.”

President Ali added that authorities are now aware of a series of financial transactions confirming that the higher amount was paid.

“This raises the central issue: Did he lie about the declared purchase price of the vehicle? Based on facts now confirmed by United States authorities, the answer is yes. He submitted a falsified invoice to the GRA.”

He continued, “At no time did he present the true and correct value of the vehicle—neither to me, nor to the GRA. He continues to assert the value is US$75,000, despite clear evidence to the contrary.”

Asked about personal attacks made by Mohamed, President Ali declined to respond.

“I will not address the personal insults—they reveal more about his character than mine.”
