Family of four seeks help after Shieldstown fire

A family of four is seeking assistance following the complete destruction of their home in Shieldstown, Berbice on Sunday.

Jennifer Lanchan, 21, her husband Junior Nathaniel, a carpenter, and their two young children, aged two years and eight months, were living in the one-bedroom house located at Lot 108, Shieldstown, West Bank Berbice.

Jennifer told the News Room that at approximately 5:30 hrs, while she was on her way to meet her husband nearby, she received the shocking news that their house was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from the Region Five Fire Station promptly responded to the scene, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties.

The devastation is profound, as Jennifer’s fully furnished home and all their belongings were lost in the blaze.

She mentioned that just a few days prior, they had replaced a 1,000-watt transformer, and she is now unsure whether that might have been a factor in causing the fire.

Junior Nathaniel expressed the deep emotional impact of the loss, stating, “I work so hard to buy everything, and now it’s all gone. I am asking for some assistance to rebuild.”
