A road accident claimed the life of a 51-year-old construction worker on Saturday along Agriculture Road, Triumph, East Coast Demerara.
Dead is Antonio Ignatius, a resident of Lot 77 Triumph Sideline Dam, who succumbed to injuries sustained after being struck by a motor vehicle at approximately 19:15 hrs.
Reports indicate that motor car #PAH 5305, driven by a 29-year-old man also from Triumph, was proceeding north along the western side of Agriculture Road at a fast rate when the incident occurred.
According to the driver, Ignatius suddenly attempted to cross the road from east to west and walked directly into the path of the oncoming vehicle, resulting in a violent collision. The impact flung the pedestrian into the air before he fell onto the roadway with visible injuries.
Following the initial collision, motor car #PAH 5305 also struck another vehicle—motor car #PYY 4685—which was stationary on the western parapet at the time.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT #23) from the Melanie Fire Station responded swiftly but tragically pronounced Ignatius dead at the scene. His body was later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
