China’s ‘Healthy Village’ medical outreach taken to Tiger Bone-Banakari

On Saturday, the 20th China Medical Team for Guyana braved rain to reach Tiger Bone-Banakari village in Region 4, launching the latest “Healthy Village” free medical outreach – a joint effort with Guyana’s Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and Ministry of Health. The initiative, now in its sixth stop, aims to bridge healthcare gaps for remote communities.

Chinese specialists in internal medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, traditional Chinese medicine and other fields offered blood glucose and blood pressure testing, health consultation, physical examination and medication guidance, alongside donated medical supplies. Their professionalism drew praise from residents.

“This marks the first visit by a Chinese medical team here,” The village’s Toshao, Sandra Budhan said.

The Toshao of Tiger Bone-Banakari village, Ms. Sandra Budhan led the Chinese experts to visit the farm and introduced them to the local medicinal plants and herbs.

During the break of the free clinic, Budhan led the Chinese doctors to visit the farms in the village and introduced some local medicinal plants and herbs to Dr. Ji Weipeng, a TCM practitioner and member of the 20th medical team.

“These traditional therapies embody Guyanese wisdom,” Dr. Ji noted, emphasising their potential for research to benefit locals.
