A 25-year-old motorcyclist died just after midnight on Sunday after he collided with a cow on the Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice Public Road.
Dead is Jamal Hughes from Glasgow Village, East Bank Berbice. Marashia Dehart, 24, the pillion rider, received injuries in the collision.
Police reported that Hughes was speeding at the time.
Hughes and Dehart were traveling south along the eastern lane of Number 41 Stanleytown Public Road. They both were without safety helmets at the time of the incident.
Initial reports indicate that the motorcycle struck an unbranded cow that was crossing the road. The impact resulted in both riders being thrown onto the roadway, where they sustained various injuries.
Public-spirited citizens promptly assisted and transported Hughes and Dehart to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
Unfortunately, Hughes succumbed to his injuries at approximately 01:55hrs on Monday.
Dehart received medical attention for minor injuries before being discharged.
