Shocking twist: Boyfriend left Stacey Walton in submerged car to get rid of ganja

Alfred De Jonge, the boyfriend of 22-year-old Stacy Walton, has been charged with manslaughter days after she died.

He appeared at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court Wednesday morning and was granted bail in the sum of $1 million.

Walton died on Friday, June 20, in what was initially believed to be a road accident on the No.7 Public Road, East Berbice. Investigators have, however, discovered that De Jonge lied about what transpired that fateful night.

Police, in an earlier statement, said that Walton, who was imbibing earlier in the evening, was driving De Jonge’s car with registration number PAG 2279. She was heading west on the southern lane of the road.

UPDATE: New Amsterdam businesswoman who died in accident lost control of vehicle

Police had said investigations revealed that Walton lost control of the car and ended up in a trench.

She was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Subsequently, a post-mortem was conducted, and it showed that Walton died as a result of asphyxia and drowning.

Further investigations were conducted during which De Jonge was questioned. It was then that the matter took a twist when De Jonge provided investigators with a different account of Walton’s death.

WHAT REALLY TRANSPIRED

The News Room was reliably informed that on the night of the incident, De Jonge went to Walton’s home. He picked her up in his car and they allegedly went to uplift a quantity of cannabis from an individual. While waiting on the individual, an argument ensued between the couple about De Jonge’s alleged infidelity.

The argument reportedly ended, and the couple obtained the cannabis and continued their journey back. However, De Jonge reportedly told the Police that the argument resumed.

At this time, he said, Walton was driving the vehicle while he was seated in the front passenger seat with the cannabis on his lap.

During the argument, the News Room was further told that De Jonge claimed that the vehicle veered off the roadway and plunged into a trench.

As the vehicle submerged, he said Walton was still alive, and he attempted to remove the cannabis by forcing it through the front right window.

This action, De Jonge reportedly admitted, caused Walton to drown.

De Jonge claimed that he then exited the vehicle with the cannabis and hid it in a nearby location. Soon after, the individual who provided him with the cannabis arrived at the scene in another vehicle, and they (De Jonge and the seller) argued over the missing cannabis.

De Jonge then related that he transported the man back to New Amsterdam and later returned to the scene. Upon his return, he reportedly retrieved Walton from the submerged vehicle and subsequently contacted the Police and related to them the initial story, which was false.

Walton was then transported to the hospital.

THE FAMILY’S CONCERN

Walton’s family has been adamant that the story was not as simple as was reported. She was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

However, Stacy’s father, Raoul Walton, insisted that the case requires deeper scrutiny. He recounted receiving a call at 02:22 hrs from Stacy’s ex-partner informing him about the accident. Raoul and his wife rushed to the hospital, and later, he was taken to the accident scene by his ex-partner.

Raoul pointed out a lack of evidence indicating that an actual accident occurred on the road.

“There are bruises on Stacy back, on her side; it look like she had a puncture on her side. On her hand you can see it swell up, it get marks of violence. Water in the lungs yes, is drowning but many things can happen before drowning…. I don’t just want hear drowning, they get many more things surrounding it because this is not drowning, this is murder,” he asserted.

He continued, “We as family need justice for our child and we are going to go all out to make sure this is possible even though it may look impossible; the almighty God will make it possible. We need justice and we have to get justice.”

Stacy’s mother, Kate Walton, echoed her husband’s sentiments, emphasizing her daughter’s struggle with abuse from her ex-partner. Kate revealed that she had spoken with Stacy just days before her death and intended to reach out again.

“He saying that he (De Jonge) rescue my daughter and then you hearing is public spirited citizens. Right now I would like to have justice for my daughter because it’s not easy for the parents and brothers and so going through,” she disclosed.
