An unidentified man was stabbed to death after he allegedly robbed a 22-year-old bowman on Wednesday at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling, West Coast Demerara.
Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 18:00 hrs.
According to the report, the 22-year-old visited the Georgetown Public Hospital with injuries to his upper arm and back.
He told investigators that the dead man reportedly attacked him with a knife and robbed him of the passenger fare.
The 22-year-old claimed that he managed to take away the knife from the perpetrator and stabbed him.
Police said the 22-year-old was arrested and escorted to Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station.
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old security guard at the Vreed-en-Hoop boat house told Police he saw the now deceased man walking out of the stelling and sitting on a bench, bleeding from both sides of his upper body. The security guard said with the assistance of two other persons, the injured man was placed into a car and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The matter was reported to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station and a team of detectives visited the hospital, where they were informed that the man succumbed to his injuries.
The body of the deceased was photographed and examined by the police, and three stab wounds were seen on his upper body on both sides.
The body of the deceased, who is yet to be identified, was escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Further investigations are ongoing.
