Two persons are now facing uncertainty after a devastating fire engulfed their home in Dukestown on Wednesday afternoon.
Vishal Rameshwar, 39, a self-employed resident of Lot 151 Dukestown, Skeldon, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne), told the News Room that he was living at the one-bedroom wooden house with his brother.
Vishal stated he left his home around 04:00 hrs to cut grass and was alerted to the fire around 5:20 p.m. Upon receiving the shocking news, he rushed back to the scene.
“When me come in me watch, the house was bear fire. I don’t know house the fire take place. None of the two of us went home,” he said.
Vishal said that all of their belongings, including important documents, were destroyed by the fire. He said he had $20,000 Guyana currency as his savings and all destroyed in the blaze.
“A reasonable portion thing destroyed for me,” he related.

The Corriverton Fire Station quickly responded to the incident.
When asked about his next steps, Vishal expressed his frustration: “I don’t know which part i will go because me na get nowhere else to go. Is one of me friends I sleep by last night. I glad if I can get assistance from the Government or somebody else.”
