Family legacy expands as new Jewelz by King’s Hotel opens

Jewelz by King’s Hotel, the newest hospitality venture in Guyana’s capital city, was officially opened by President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Friday afternoon.

The hotel is another investment of the Persaud family behind the internationally recognised King’s brand. King’s is Guyana’s leading luxury retailer, known for exquisite and intricate pieces of jewellery and luxury goods like clothes, watches, and other accessories.

A few years after the family accepted the challenge of helping Guyana meet the growing demand for hotel rooms, the family opened their hotel at the corner of Waterloo and Quamina Streets.

“This is a new hotel and will become a place where memories will be made, where experiences will unfold, where guests will feel welcomed and pampered,” Chairman of LEHR Inc. and King’s Founder Looknauth Persaud said on Friday.

For Director Renata Persaud, the hotel is more than just a luxurious, comfortable building that stands tall in central Georgetown. She said it is a symbol of the family’s commitment to Guyana and a venture that should be serving Guyana for decades.

“This is a family business built with love, sacrifice, long days and long nights… We built this for generations to come,” Renata emphasised at Friday’s opening.

Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali opened the hotel, deeming it a win that should be celebrated by all Guyanese.

“This is Guyana’s achievement.

“This is not just the opening of another hotel; it is the continuing journey of Guyana’s success story,” Dr. Ali emphasised.

He also said that such ventures are exactly what the government wants to support to help expand the local tourism and hospitality sector, thereby employing more people, attracting more visitors, and contributing to the growth of the local economy.

The Jewelz Hotel, he said, will help to meet the demand for rooms. However, he noted that this demand will continue to grow as the government is pushing various types of tourism ventures, from eco-tourism initiatives to sport and entertainment tourism.

The Jewelz Hotel enjoyed support from Demerara Bank, Guyana’s only indigenous private sector bank.
