Da Silva and Arjoon snatch Junior CASA Mixed Doubles gold for Guyana after epic fightback

Never give up!

That’s the message from Guyanese squash stars Louis Da Silva and Avery Arjoon, who battled back from triple match point down to clinch a stunning Mixed Doubles gold medal at the Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships in the Cayman Islands.

The two standout players for Guyana, Da Silva (U-19) and Arjoon (U-17), showcased their resilience and skill against the Barbadian duo Luke Wilson and Eboni Atherley in a captivating final.

The Guyanese pair held their nerve in a gruelling encounter that lasted under an hour, eventually triumphing 11-8, 8-11, 11-10 on Wednesday evening.

This gold medal marks a second triumph for Da Silva and Arjoon, who each secured individual gold medals earlier in the week on Tuesday. It underlines their status as top talents in Caribbean junior squash.

Guyana also celebrated further success in the doubles categories, with Shiloh Asregado and Justin Ten Pow claiming bronze in the Boys Doubles, and Kaylee Lowe and Emily Fung-A-Fat securing the same honour in the Girls Doubles.

The individual events also saw a strong showing from the Guyanese contingent, with Emily Fung-A-Fat (U-17 silver), Ethan Bulkan (U-13 silver), Zion Hickerson (U-13 silver), and Justin Ten Pow (U-15 silver) all adding to Guyana’s medal tally.

With the individual and doubles events concluded, the focus now shifts to the team championships.

Guyana will aim to reclaim the overall title, having finished second in the previous edition held in the British Virgin Islands.

The boys’ team finished third and the girls’ team fifth on that occasion.

Guyana boasts a rich history in the Junior CASA Championships as they dominated the competition for over a decade, clinching an impressive 12 consecutive overall titles from 2005 to 2016.

Guyana will be hoping to draw on that legacy as it looks to secure more silverware in the team events.
