Jagdeo dismisses rumours that Mark Phillips will not return as PPP’s PM candidate

General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday dismissed rumours that Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips will not return as the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate.

“Sherod Duncan has been spreading all of these rumours… that we are replacing Mark Phillips with (Juan) Edghill,” Jagdeo said at his weekly press conference.

Over the past few days, Duncan’s commentary page ‘Credible Sources’ has been spreading information that Prime Minister Mark Phillips would be replaced by Public Works Minister Juan Edghill as the PM candidate for the 2025 elections. However, Jagdeo confirmed that Brigadier Phillips will return as President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s running mate.

“Mark is an asset to this party. Mark brings great credibility to our list and our ticket. He combined with President Ali, and they have the experience and the skill to lead this country compared to anyone else,” Jagdeo affirmed.

As he addressed these rumours, the General Secretary urged persons to refrain from spreading misinformation and mischievous rumours.
