GECOM suspends voter registration transactions

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has announced the suspension of all voter registration transactions from July 1, 2025, through to September 14, 2025, as the country prepares for the upcoming General and Regional Elections scheduled for September 1, 2025.

In an official notice, GECOM stated that the decision to halt registration activities—including applications for new registration, name changes, and transfers—was made to enable the Commission and its Secretariat to fully focus on the logistics and smooth conduct of the elections.

During this suspension period, however, GECOM offices will remain open to process applications for the replacement of ID cards lost or damaged, as well as photo retakes, ensuring voters can still access these essential services.
