Guyana Police Force working to ensure ‘peaceful, secure’ elections – Hicken

Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken on Friday highlighted that the Guyana Police Force is preparing itself so that it does its part to ensure the September 1, 2025 General and Regional Elections unfold in a peaceful and secure manner.

“With the upcoming General and Regional Elections, we affirm our commitment to ensure a peaceful, secure and democratic electoral process,” Hicken said while addressing those gathered at the Force’s 186 Anniversary Annual awards ceremony.

According to Hicken, the Force’s preparations include ensuring that its ranks are equipped in both mindset and method.

“Our preparations are grounded in strategy, guided by law and executed with imparity.

“We have enhanced operational readiness, strengthened intelligence cooperation and (are) ensuring all police ranks are equipped both in mindset and method,” he said.

He reiterated that the Force is committed to upholding the rule of law while protecting the rights and freedom of every citizen.

Hicken comments comes just days after U.S Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot told the media that the U.S is supporting the Police Force as well as local and international observers for the elections.
