Vice President and General Secretary of the incumbent People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Dr Bharrat Jagdeo has urged supporters to remain vigilant and ensure that the party’s massive public support is converted into actual votes when Guyanese head to the polls on September 01.
Addressing a large crowd at the PPP/C’s campaign rally at Kitty Market Square on Sunday, Jagdeo said while the government’s track record speaks for itself, victory is only assured if every supporter plays their part in getting voters to the polls.
“This (victory) will be inevitable only if you do the work that is necessary between now and election Day,” Jagdeo told the cheering supporters.
“We have to be vigilant. We have to guard against all sorts of crookedness, but more importantly, every one of you must go back to your communities and help people understand our message. We must bring them out.”
Jagdeo reminded the crowd that the internet alone does not vote. “It’s on Election Day you have to assist the activists so that when the votes are counted, what we speak of as an overwhelming victory will be a reality. It does not happen by itself,” he said.

Calling on every man, woman, and young person gathered to commit to the campaign’s final push, Jagdeo stressed that the party’s progress over the past five years should be defended at the ballot box.
“We are proud of what we have achieved together. Now, let’s ensure this massive support we see here today is translated into votes on Election Day,” Jagdeo declared.
The Vice President’s message capped a rally themed around continuity and transformation, with the PPP/C promising continued investment in housing, education, healthcare and job creation if re-elected.
