A 38-year-old construction worker from Foulis, East Coast Demerara, has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined $1 million after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child family member.
Police said John Chappelle of 13th Street, Foulis, was arrested on 13th July 2025 by ranks from the Cove and John Police Station.
He was charged on 16th July 2025 with the offence of ‘Sexual Activity with a Child Family Member’, contrary to Section 16(3)(b)(i) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03.
Chappelle appeared before Her Worship Orinthia Schmidt at the Cove and John Magistrates’ Court, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded guilty and was handed a custodial sentence of two years’ imprisonment along with a fine of $1 million.
