Police on motorcycle patrol at Helena #2, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, have arrested an 18-year-old Venezuelan national after he was allegedly found with cocaine in his possession.
Reports indicate that around 17:00 hrs on Wednesday, ranks spotted the young construction worker standing on a bridge with a black one-strap bag hanging around his neck.
A search of his person and bag uncovered a transparent zip-lock bag containing seven parcels wrapped in black plastic and one white plastic parcel, all secured together. When opened, the parcels contained pieces of a hard, rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine.
The suspect was cautioned, arrested and taken to the Mahaica Police Station, where the suspected cocaine was weighed and found to be 11 grams.
The Venezuelan national remains in custody as investigations continue.
