Veteran prowess shone brightly at the National Racquet Centre as Nicolette Fernandes and Daniel Ince defied younger challengers to claim the prestigious Women’s and Men’s National Elite titles at the ENet-sponsored Championships.
Forty-two-year-old Nicolette Fernandes continued to write her name into the history books, securing what is understood to be her 12th national title.
She performed masterfully in the Women’s National Draw—Elite final, dispatching 31-year-old Mary Fung-A-Fat with a clinical 3-0 victory (11-8, 11-0, 11-5).
Fernandes showcased her experience and precision, particularly in the dominant second game.
The Men’s National Draw—Elite final provided a captivating family affair. 35-year-old Daniel Ince faced off against his 21-year-old cousin, Samuel Ince-Carvalhal.
In a hard-fought contest, Daniel emerged victorious with a 3-0 win (12-10, 11-4, 12-10). The Ince clan, including proud grandfather Carl Ince, were on hand to witness the exciting battle between the two English-born Guyanese players.
The championships highlighted the enduring talent of seasoned players and the emerging stars of Guyanese squash.
