‘Coloured Girl in the Ring’ and One Guyana ring loud in Linden as PPP/C rallies support

The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) on Sunday took its elections campaign rally to Linden, Region Ten where Candidates from across the region took the stage to endorse President Dr. Irfaan Ali for a second term in office.

Sherry James, a candidate on the party’s list for the Monday, September 1, 2025, elections said “this is the best elections we get because we ain’t get no opposition.

“…they [only] got two people monkeying themselves,” she said taking a jab at leaders of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) parties.

“Linden going red,” she shouted to the cheers of thousand gathered at Sunday’s event.

James struck a powerful chord when she burst out singing Coloured Girl in the Ring, a beloved Caribbean folk tune. Her message was clear – the PPP is inclusive and is not for Indo-Guyanese only.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Dr. Shurdon Murray, a Medical Doctor and Pastor who said “the reality is that Linden is going better and stronger under a new banner and that banner is the PPP/C.”

He emphasized that Dr. Ali is a young vibrant President who has led investments in the Region which saw building of roads and bridges connecting communities which were never before connected.

“He is not just a president but a president with a vision for all Guyanese” Councillor of Hururu, Sonia Williams added.

She highlighted that the PPP/C has delivered on its promises and therefore deserves an opportunity to continue.

“Five years ago, he (the President) had a vision to have one Guyana. At the time we were segregated but look at us right now” pointed out Sarah Gibson, a Candidate of Bamia noted, adding that the PPP/C managed to unite the country.

As such, she said “take your neighbours, take your family and let us vote for the PPP/C.”

The crowd was also addressed by Tedroy Singh of Sand Hills who spoke of massive infrastructure growth and targeted development in health, education and agriculture.

“More importantly, we have seen a govt that delivers and lead with steady hands and clean heart,” he said,
