National U-15 footballers to open campaign today after travel delays

Guyana’s U15 Boys’ Championship opening match has been postponed following significant travel delays. The team’s flight to Aruba was rescheduled by Concacaf.

According to the Guyana Football Federation, in a press statement on Monday, the team was due to kick off their Concacaf U15 Boys’ Championship campaign on August 4, but a delayed flight caused the squad to miss its connection.

As a result, their opening fixture against Cuba has been moved to Thursday, August 7, at 09:00 h in Trinidad and Tobago.

Despite the disruption, the squad and staff are in “high spirits” and remain focused on their preparations.

The GFF thanked Concacaf for its “swift coordination and understanding” and the public’s support.

The new schedule sees Guyana now open their campaign today against Puerto Rico from 16:00h.

The GFF has unveiled the 18-man squad for the tournament, which will also see them face the Cayman Islands in the group stage.
