Driver gives different account of Crabwood Creek fatal accident to Police

Police reported that the driver involved in the fatal accident at the Crabwood Creek Public Road, which resulted in the death of a 9-year-old Sahil Naipaul, is claiming that the child ran across the road suddenly.

This claim differs from earlier reports.

The Guyana Police Force reported that at approximately 12:45 hrs on Tuesday, a motorcar, PAK 6598, operated by a 22-year-old laborer from Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, was traveling south at a fast rate in the eastern drive lane.

The driver told investigators that Sahil ran from west to east across the road, leading to a collision with the front left side of the vehicle.

After the collision, the driver fled the scene but was subsequently arrested by the Police at the Crabwood Creek access road.

It was earlier reported that witnesses told Sahil’s mother that the car was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it veered into the corner, collided with the boy, and sent him into the trench.

Sahil, a student at Crabwood Creek Primary School, was found unconscious at the scene and was transported by Police to Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

In line with standard procedure, a breathalyser test was administered to the driver, revealing no presence of alcohol.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
