Elton Dharry headlines star-studded Pro-Am card on August 9

Elton Dharry Promotions, in collaboration with the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, is set to deliver a night of explosive boxing as a star-studded Pro-Am card takes place this Saturday, August 9, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Guyanese boxing sensation Elton Dharry will headline the event, facing Panama’s Roger Saldana. The card also features Keevin Allicock against Colombia’s Omar Cuello and Dexter Marques battling Sammy Ramos, who is also from Colombia.

In a highly anticipated professional debut, amateur standout Desmond Amsterdam will enter the ring against Romeo Norville.

Meanwhile, Edward DeClou and Charwin Estwick will compete for the national super middleweight title in what promises to be a thrilling contest.

At a pre-fight press conference, Guyana Boxing Board of Control President Peter Abdool expressed his excitement for the event. “This is an excellent card,” he said. “It blends a bit of the new guys coming in, the people in Guyana want to see. We want to see our new blood and where that is coming from.”

Dharry, who is also promoting the event, spoke about his career coming to an end and urged fans to attend.

“If you have never seen me fight before, you need to show up this time. I’m not going to be coming here much more; my career is coming to an end soon, so I’m going to do a few more before I retire.”

DeClou, returning to the ring after a hiatus, stated, “It’s a blessing being here today because I haven’t been competing in a few years, but I’m still here, I’ve still got it, and definitely I’m willing to put on a show Saturday.”

He then warned his opponent, “The last thing I want to say, Estwick, is it’s best you don’t turn up Saturday and be done.”

Estwick quickly retorted with a confident message of his own. “Good luck. Good luck to you, DeClou,” he said.

“The 22nd of April, the main reason I came to this country – I missed you last year. It’s not going to happen on Saturday. Good luck to you, DeClou.”

The event will also feature an amateur card, with Guyana’s Abiola Jackman headlining that segment in a clash with Trinidad and Tobago’s Merlicia Durham.

Terron Wintz will take on St. Lucia’s Justice Joseph, with Akeelah Vancooten and Ryan Rogers also scheduled to compete.

With all systems in place, organizers are promising a ferocious night of combat for all boxing fans in Guyana.
