‘PPP came to the rescue in hard times, now will lead Guyana through good times’ –  President Ali tells Bath residents

Addressing a mammoth crowd at a PPP/C rally on Sunday, President Dr. Irfaan Ali reflected on how the party came to Guyana’s rescue during challenging moments and vowed to lead the country through a future of growth and prosperity.

“The PPP came to the rescue when the global market collapsed, when fertiliser was short and fuel prices soared,” Ali told supporters in Bath, Region Five.

“Now, we are ready to take the country through good times—building on the progress made in the last five years.”

“Every time this country needed the PPP, we were right there in every struggle,” Ali told the cheering crowd, tracing the party’s role from the fight against colonialism to independence, the battle to end dictatorship, the restoration of democracy and rebuilding a bankrupt economy.

Ali said the PPP/C’s track record speaks for itself — better education, more scholarships, reduced taxes, and strong support for farmers and families — while accusing the APNU/AFC of breaking promises and failing to prosecute a single case of corruption after their 2015 victory.

President Ali outlined specific plans for Region Five’s future and highlighted key achievements of the PPP/C government during its current term:

He said the PPP/C will invest to make agriculture not only profitable but transformational. Efforts have begun to renew ageing coconut plantations with higher-yield, better varieties alongside developing processing and packaging facilities right here in Region Five.

The party’s vision extends beyond land distribution. President Ali promised financial support for families to build their own homes, emphasising dignity, honour, and pride for every Guyanese household.

Significant investment in drainage and irrigation infrastructure is underway, including the deployment of 290 excavators and mini-excavators to every Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) in the region, with plans to place equipment directly in the hands of farmers.

Guyana is leading globally with crop insurance schemes designed to reduce the risks of rice farming, lowering capital costs and incentivising banks to offer agricultural loans at competitive rates similar to low-income housing loans.

Region Five made history by producing 103,000 acres of rice, prompting plans for new storage facilities to support farmers further.
Investments will be made to build a supportive ecosystem, ensuring farmers across Region Five and Guyana can thrive.

Beyond part-time jobs and grants, the PPP/C aims to help entrepreneurs own businesses and develop skills for higher-level economic participation.

The government will invest in technology and mechanisation to ease the physical burden on sugar workers and create strategies for income diversification beyond estate earnings, coupled with special incentives.

Youth, women, and families will benefit from investments in childcare facilities and quality-of-life improvements to restore dignity and opportunity.

He also announced plans to build a world-class horse racing track in Region Five.

“This is the time to convert this historic crowd into votes on September 1,” Ali urged.
