ELECTIONS 2025: GECOM set for Disciplined Services voting

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has already identified the polling stations for members of the Disciplined Services who are set to cast their ballots on August 22, ahead of the September 1 general and regional elections.

Public Relations Officer, Yolanda Ward, told the News Room that all arrangements are in place and that GECOM is on schedule with its work plan.

“So, all of our preparations are in place in relation to logistics. We’ve worked out all of our logistical arrangements to ensure that all of our polling stations across the country on the 1st of September, in particular, are ready for the opening of the poll from 6 AM,” Ward said.

The elections body has also commenced ‘refresher’ training for its polling station workers to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Ward said that the actual ballot papers will arrive in the country soon.

“So, those refresher trainings are ongoing; our ballots will be arriving within another few days, so that we prepare to ensure that everything is packed and ready for the efficient conduct of the elections on the 1st of September,” the PRO said.

GECOM has been engaging stakeholders over the past few weeks, and they will soon meet with the accredited international and local observers.

Meanwhile, Ward also reminded citizens of their constitutional rights as they relate to casting their votes.

“We want persons to ensure that they pay keen attention to knowing their rights, knowing their responsibilities, and also to be familiar with election offences and to ensure they guard against committing election offences during the election.”

Those who can vote include Guyanese by birth, naturalised individuals, a Commonwealth resident living in Guyana for one year or more, and those who turned 18 by June 30th.
