Guyana records 18% increase in visitor arrivals in first seven months

During the first seven months of 2025, Guyana recorded an 18 per cent increase in visitor arrivals when compared to the same period in 2024, according to a notice from the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.

Between January and July 2025, a total of 242, 655 visitors arrived in the country.

“This record-breaking growth was seen across all seven months, with the United States (100,331), Caribbean (76,247), Canada (17,783), and Europe (14,079) among the top source markets,” the ministry stated.

According to the ministry, the surge was supported by enhanced air connectivity, targeted marketing in key markets, and a strong return of diaspora travel, major cultural and sporting events, and new tourism products that continue expanding Guyana’s appeal to regional and international visitors.

Meanwhile, over one million passenger movements were recorded at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) as of June 2025, a 15 per cent increase when compared to last year.

Chief Executive Officer of CJIA, Ramesh Ghir recently told the News Room during an interview that airline traffic has also grown by 5 to 6 per cent.

With the upgraded immigration system, Ghir said about 80 percent of passengers are able to process through the immigration area within an average of about 20 seconds upon arriving at a kiosk.
