Opposition turned election race into a ‘comic show’ but PPP/C poised to win largest majority – Ramson Jr.

With just nine days before Guyanese head to the polls, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr. has declared that the opposition has reduced the 2025 General and Regional Elections to a “comic show,” but insisted that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) will secure the largest majority in the nation’s history.

Addressing a massive PPP/C public meeting in Herstelling on Saturday night, Ramson said elections are supposed to be a serious national conversation on policies, programmes, projects and candidates. Instead, he argued, the opposition has presented no credible platform, ideas, or vision.

On one side, you hear that they plan to release all the prisoners, Ramson said, before noting ‘real danger’ from Opposition LEader  Aubrey Norton, to move the Office of the President to Bam Bam Alley. These are not policies; this is a farce,” Ramson said to loud cheers.

He emphasised that governing requires hard work, commitment and skill—qualities he said only the PPP/C can bring to the table.

“You need a team of qualified people and the PPP is the only party that can do that,” Ramson stated, urging voters to judge the APNU opposition by its record in government.

The minister reminded the crowd of the PPP/C’s track record under President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who he described as “one of the best presidents in the world.” He pointed to achievements in education, healthcare, jobs, and infrastructure, while recalling the hardships of the PNC’s 28-year rule.

“People stood in long lines for basic rations, we had weeks without electricity, and people died from illnesses you don’t even hear of anymore. Guyana became one of the poorest countries in the hemisphere. Today, under President Ali, Guyana is the fastest growing economy in the world and one of the most exciting places to be,” Ramson said.

He accused the PNC of maintaining a “rigging culture,” dismissing Norton’s claim that there will be trouble if the PPP attempts to rig the polls.

“They are the rigging party. They have always been and never changed,” Ramson charged, adding that the PPP remains the only national, mass-based, democratic party in the country.

Turning his attention to the rise of the newly-formed WIN Party, Ramson was blunt: “No person who is OFAC-sanctioned should be running for political office in this country.” He reminded supporters that even the U.S. Ambassador to Guyana recently expressed concern about sanctioned individuals seeking to enter Parliament.

“Just running for political office under those circumstances threatens our territorial integrity and financial system. We must protect our 83,000 square miles,” he warned.

Ramson underscored that the PPP/C had delivered on every single promise in its 2020 manifesto and with a renewed mandate, will continue to transform Guyana.

“We are a great people. We’ve come a far way. The PPP has taken us from poverty and ridicule to pride and respect on the international stage. On September 1, give President Ali and the PPP a second term—we will win the largest majority in this country,” he declared.
