As part of key budgetary measures meant to support the population, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh on Friday announced that a one-off $100,000 voucher will be given for every newborn baby.
Dr. Singh announced this as he winded down his presentation of the 2025 National Budget on Friday at the Arthur Ching Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Georgetown.
This voucher will be for every newborn baby, born in Guyana to a Guyanese mother.
The Finance Minister said this was being done to “support the development and wellbeing of one of our most precious and valuable population groups” and acknowledged that babies are the future of Guyana.
In total, providing this voucher is estimated to cost $1.3 billion annually.
