Disaster was averted early Monday morning after a small fire was quickly extinguished at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Headquarters in Georgetown.
This was confirmed by Fire Chief, Gregory Wickham, who said that by time the Guyana Fire Service responded, the fire was extinguished.

Wickham told the News Room that the fire was electrical in origin.
The fire reportedly start in the dining area of the building which is situated in Kingston, Georgetown.
Staff members who reported for duty were quickly evacuated to accommodate an assessment.
An investigation is ongoing.
