A captain’s knock of immense composure from Tevin Imlach and a spin bowling masterclass by Gudakesh Motie and Veerasammy Permaul propelled Guyana Harpy Eagles to a crushing 10-wicket victory over Windward Islands Volcanoes in their fifth-round West Indies Championship encounter at the Providence.
Resuming on 159-3, the Harpy Eagles, trailing the Volcanoes’ 213, built a formidable lead thanks to Imlach’s anchoring innings.
The right-hander’s 113, compiled from 201 deliveries and featuring eight boundaries, was his second century of the season and fifth of his first-class career.
Kemol Savory, Imlach’s overnight partner, was dismissed for 49, just shy of his fifty.
Kevin Sinclair contributed a quick 20 off 26 balls, while Ronaldo Alimohamed (20 off 25) and Gudakesh Motie (32 off 35) provided valuable lower-order runs.
Imlach was the last man dismissed, caught off Gilon Tyson, with the Harpy Eagles posting 324.
Resuming on 159-3, the Harpy Eagles, led by Imlach’s composed 113, posted 324, establishing a 111-run first-innings lead.
The Volcanoes’ second innings collapsed under the pressure of Motie and Permaul’s spin, managing only 135.
Motie’s 6-38 and Permaul’s 3-46 ripped through the Volcanoes’ batting lineup.
The Volcanoes’ second innings started promisingly with a 43-run opening stand, but Motie and Alimohamed triggered a collapse.
Kavem Hodge’s 40 was the lone resistance.
Raymond Perez (10 not out) and Matthew Nandu (18 not out) completed the formalities, reaching the target in just 4.3 overs.
According to SportsMax, the result pushed Harpy Eagles back to the top of the standings with 102.6 points, just ahead of Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, which had 101 points.
