Welder arrested with illegal gun in North East La Penitence

A police operation conducted around midnight on Friday in North East La Penitence resulted in the arrest of 23-year-old welder, Shakeel Cox, from Albouystown.

During the operation, officers made contact with Cox, and one detective, identifying himself as a plain-clothes officer, requested permission to search him. Cox consented to the search, during which a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off and three rounds of 9mm ammunition were discovered in a black one-strap bag that Cox was carrying.

Additionally, three payslips and a Western Union receipt, all bearing Cox’s name, were found in the bag. When questioned about holding a firearm licence, Cox denied possessing one. He was promptly informed of the offence, arrested, and cautioned, though he chose to remain silent.

Cox was subsequently taken to the East La Penitence Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were marked and placed into separate evidence bags. These items were sealed and sent to the ballistics section for further analysis.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
