Harold Bissoo of Goed Bananen Land, East Canje Berbice, celebrated his 105th birthday on Tuesday.
Born on April 8, 1920, to parents Bharosi and Chowrasia, he was one of three children, although his two siblings passed away years ago.
Mr. Bissoo grew up in Goed Bananen Land and attended school there.
In his youth, he met Bephia, and together they had two children, one of whom is still living.
Sadly, Mr. Bissoo’s wife passed away in 2005.
He worked as a Bull Boy at the Rose Hall Plantation and also spent many years farming provisions and other crops, in addition to fishing.
At the age of 105, Mr. Bissoo has difficulty moving independently and experiences some hearing loss. He is currently being cared for by relatives.
His daughter, Moona Jewjodhan, 77, expressed her happiness that her father has lived such a long life and hopes he will continue to enjoy many more years.
“Everyone is happy about it; at least I have someone alive,” she shared.
Mr. Bissoo is proud to have nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
